Bodrum is the principal town of the Bodrum Peninsula on Turkey's southern Aegean coast, in Mugla Province. It was known in antiquity as Halicarnassus, birthplace of Herodotus and home to the Mausoleum of Mausolus - one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The white-washed houses and bougainvillea-draped streets made it a magnet for Turkish artists and writers in the mid-20th century.

The peninsula has two faces: Bodrum town centre with its castle, marina, and lively nightlife strip, and the surrounding villages of Yalikavak, Gumusluk, Bitez, and Turgutreis - each with distinctive beaches and atmospheres. Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is 36 km from Bodrum centre, with shuttle and taxi options. Ferries connect to the Greek island of Kos in 20 minutes.
