Are there transaction fees when I pay for a hotel with USDC or USDT on trip1?

In short

  • trip1 doesn't add a transaction fee for crypto payments - the only cost is the network gas fee charged by the blockchain.
  • USDC on Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, or Optimism typically costs less than 10 cents in network fees.
  • trip1 currently accepts USDC, not USDT - so the fees you'll actually see depend on the USDC network you choose.

Network fees explained

Every blockchain charges a small fee (called gas) to process a transaction. Your wallet deducts the fee automatically when it broadcasts the payment. trip1 doesn't collect any portion of this fee - it goes to network validators or sequencers.

Typical USDC fees by network:

  • Polygon - usually under 5 cents
  • Arbitrum, Base, Optimism - usually 5-10 cents
  • Ethereum mainnet - typically a few dollars, higher during congestion

trip1's fee policy

trip1 doesn't add a flat fee, percentage fee, or processing surcharge for stablecoin payments. The hotel rate displayed at checkout is what trip1 charges.

If a booking is canceled and refunded, trip1 doesn't charge a refund fee either - though the original network gas fee paid to the blockchain isn't recoverable.

Note on USDT

USDT is not currently a supported payment method on trip1. If you only hold USDT, swap it for USDC on an exchange or decentralized swap app, then pay with USDC on a supported network.

USDC and USDT Hotel Payment Fees - FAQ

No. Trip1 does not add a flat fee for USDC payments. The only cost outside the room rate is the network gas fee paid to blockchain validators.

Ethereum mainnet processes far fewer transactions per second than Polygon, so demand for block space drives fees higher. Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism are designed to be cheaper alternatives.

USDT isn't currently a supported payment method on Trip1. For supported USDC payments, network fees on Layer 2 networks (Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism) typically cost under 10 cents.

The network fee goes to blockchain validators or sequencers, not to Trip1 or CoinGate. Your wallet deducts it automatically when it broadcasts the transaction.

Trip1 doesn't charge a refund fee, but the original network gas fee isn't recoverable. Refunds are returned in the same currency you paid with, on the same network.
