Can I cancel a hotel booking and rebook at a lower price?
In short
- Yes - if your existing booking has free cancellation, you can rebook the same room at the lower price and cancel the original.
- Book the new rate first - the cheaper rate could sell out, leaving you without either booking.
- Don't cancel a non-refundable booking just to rebook - you'd forfeit the original payment in full.
How to do it safely
Step 1 - Verify the new price holds
Confirm the lower rate is for the same room, dates, and refund policy. Sometimes "cheaper" rates are actually a smaller room or non-refundable terms.
Step 2 - Book the new rate
Complete the new booking and get the confirmation in writing. On trip1 you'll receive an email with the new booking reference.
Step 3 - Cancel the original
Once the new booking is confirmed, cancel the old one. trip1 sends the refund back to your wallet via CoinGate within 24-48 hours.
Why this rarely helps with non-refundable bookings
Non-refundable bookings forfeit the full amount on cancellation. The new rate would have to be cheaper by more than the entire original booking - which essentially never happens. Hold on to the original.

Yes, if your existing booking has free cancellation. There's no penalty for cancelling and rebooking the same hotel at a better rate.
The lower rate could sell out before you rebook. Book the new rate first, then cancel the original.
Some do, but it's not standard. trip1 doesn't price-match - cancelling and rebooking on a free cancellation rate gets the same result without paperwork.
Don't cancel it - you'd forfeit the full amount. The cheaper new rate would have to save more than the loss, which is rare.
