Do I need a passport to book a hotel on trip1?

In short

  • You don't need a passport to book a hotel on trip1 - just a valid email address to receive your confirmation.
  • For domestic stays, most hotels accept a national ID card, driver's license, or other government-issued photo ID at check-in.
  • For international stays, you'll usually need a passport at the hotel - the same one you used to enter the country.

What is trip1?

trip1 is a hotel booking platform where you can search and book from over 3 million hotels in 190+ countries - and pay with cryptocurrency. trip1 accepts 50+ cryptocurrencies via CoinGate, a MiCA-licensed payment provider, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, and many more. Because trip1 is a booking platform and not the hotel itself, what you need to book on trip1 and what you need at check-in are two different things.

Booking on trip1 - what you actually need

To complete a hotel booking on trip1, you only need three things:

  1. An email address where we can send your confirmation.
  2. The guest name as it will appear on the ID at check-in.
  3. A crypto wallet or other accepted payment method to pay for the room.

trip1 doesn't ask for a passport number, scan, or upload at the booking stage. Your booking confirmation is generated as soon as your crypto payment confirms on-chain.

Why hotels still ask for ID at check-in

Even though trip1 doesn't need your passport to take the booking, the hotel will ask for a government-issued photo ID when you arrive. This is a hotel and local-law requirement, not a trip1 requirement.

For domestic stays in your home country, hotels usually accept any government-issued photo ID, such as a national ID card, driver's license, or passport. For international stays, hotels typically require a passport, since that is also what immigration used to verify your right to enter the country.

The name on the ID needs to match the guest name on your trip1 booking. We recommend booking under the exact full name shown on the document you'll bring.

When you do need a passport for trip1 bookings

You don't need a passport to make the booking, but you'll want a valid passport on hand whenever you are:

  • Crossing an international border to reach your hotel.
  • Staying in a country that requires a passport at every hotel check-in, which covers most non-domestic stays.
  • Booking on behalf of a guest traveling internationally, since they will show their own passport at the hotel.

If your trip is fully domestic, a passport isn't required - the hotel just needs to confirm you are who the booking says you are.
