Seattle Travel Facts
Seattle sits on a dramatic natural canvas - water on two sides, mountains in both directions, and a skyline punctuated by the iconic Space Needle. The city is the cultural and commercial capital of the Pacific Northwest, home to some of the world's most influential technology companies alongside a thriving independent music scene, outstanding coffee culture, and one of the best food scenes in the United States.
Pike Place Market is one of the oldest and most beloved public markets in the country, with fishmongers, flower stalls, and the original Starbucks all within a few steps of each other. The waterfront offers ferries to Bainbridge Island, while neighbourhoods like Capitol Hill, Ballard, and Fremont each carry a distinct personality. The city is flanked by the Olympic Mountains to the west and the Cascade Range to the east, with Mount Rainier visible on clear days.
Seattle is a FIFA World Cup 2026 host city, with matches scheduled at Lumen Field - the home of the Seattle Seahawks NFL team - right in the heart of downtown. Compact, walkable, and with excellent public transport, it is one of the most visitor-friendly World Cup host cities.

Seattle Destination FAQ
Summer (July and August) is the best time to visit Seattle. The city transforms when the sun comes out - long days, warm temperatures (18-25°C), and a packed calendar of outdoor events and festivals. The World Cup matches in July 2026 fall perfectly in Seattle's prime season. Spring and autumn are mild but expect rain. Winter is grey and wet but mild, with the lowest hotel rates.
The Link Light Rail connects Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to downtown Seattle. Trains run every 8-15 minutes, the journey to Westlake Station takes about 38 minutes, and a single fare costs around $3. Rideshares (Uber, Lyft) take 25-40 minutes depending on traffic and cost $35-55. There is no direct bus from the airport to the city centre - the Light Rail is by far the best option.
Seattle's downtown and central neighbourhoods are compact and walkable. The ORCA Card works across the Link Light Rail, buses, the South Lake Union Streetcar, and Washington State Ferries. Lumen Field - the FIFA World Cup venue - is a 15-minute walk from Westlake Center or reachable in minutes on the light rail. You do not need a car for most visitor activities.
Two to three days covers the main highlights - Pike Place Market, the Space Needle and Seattle Center, the waterfront, Capitol Hill, and at least one ferry crossing to Bainbridge Island. Add a day for a day trip to Mount Rainier National Park (2.5 hours) or the Olympic Peninsula. World Cup visitors should plan at least three days to combine a match with sightseeing.
Seattle is one of the safer large cities in the United States for visitors. Downtown, Capitol Hill, South Lake Union, Ballard, and Fremont are all comfortable to walk around day and night. The area around 3rd Avenue downtown and parts of the International District can feel edgy after dark. As anywhere, keep your belongings secure and be aware of your surroundings in quieter streets at night.
On trip1, you can book hotels across Seattle and pay with over 50 cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDC. trip1 covers 3 million+ hotels in 190+ countries, making it easy to find and book accommodation with crypto.
Mount Rainier National Park (2.5 hours south) is the most spectacular day trip - a 4,392 m volcano with year-round snow, wildflower meadows in summer, and world-class hiking. Bainbridge Island (35-minute ferry from downtown) offers a charming small-town contrast to the city. Snoqualmie Falls (45 minutes east) and the San Juan Islands (ferry from Anacortes) are also popular options.
