Hyatt files them in five groups. This page is the two at the top: Luxury, which is Park Hyatt, Alila and Miraval, and Lifestyle, which is Andaz, Thompson Hotels, The Standard, Dream Hotels, Bunkhouse and Me and All. It also takes the three collections where a hotel keeps its own name: The Unbound Collection, JdV by Hyatt and Destination by Hyatt. The rest are the standardised ones, among them Hyatt Regency, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Place and Hyatt House.
Independent hotels that joined Hyatt and kept their own name. There are a little over fifty worldwide and they have almost nothing in common with each other: the Driskill in Austin, open since 1886, the Hôtel du Louvre in Paris, a converted athletic club in Chicago, and Great Scotland Yard in London.
Park Hyatt. Hyatt puts it in the Luxury group alongside Alila and Miraval, and it is the one with real recognition, at roughly fifty hotels worldwide including Park Hyatt Tokyo, Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme and Park Hyatt Sydney. Alila is smaller and mostly Asian, Miraval is a handful of wellness resorts.
Price, mostly. Both take hotels that keep their own name, and they are close in size at around fifty each. The Unbound Collection sits in the luxury group and holds the landmarks. JdV, short for Joie de Vivre, is a rung below and leans towards smaller, more playful city hotels.
Hyatt is much smaller, which cuts both ways. It has roughly a tenth as many hotels as Marriott, so the coverage is thinner, but a far higher share of them are luxury or lifestyle rather than roadside. At the top the three are comparable: Park Hyatt against Waldorf Astoria and The Luxury Collection. We keep Marriott and Hilton collections too if you want to compare.
