About SXSW 2027
SXSW takes over central Austin from 15 to 21 March 2027, adopting a new Saturday-to-Sunday format that shortens the traditional sprawl. SXSW EDU runs separately from 13 to 16 March and overlaps the opening weekend.
It is really several events at once: a conference across technology, AI, film, music and culture; a trade show; a film and TV festival; and a music festival with hundreds of showcases in venues along Sixth Street and Red River. Brand activations fill the downtown blocks in between, most of them free to walk into.
Austin fills completely and rates multiply during SXSW, so book as far ahead as you can. Downtown and Rainey Street put you in the middle of it; East Austin and South Congress are a short ride and calmer, and staying near a bus route matters more than distance because driving downtown is impractical.
