Accor hotels

Accor. Fairmont came with Accor's 2016 purchase of FRHI Hotels and Resorts, which brought Raffles and Swissotel across at the same time. The mix-up with Marriott is common because Marriott bought Starwood that same year, so both groups built out their luxury arm by acquisition at once.

Raffles, by Accor's own ordering. It sits at the top of the group's luxury division, with Fairmont and Sofitel Legend just below it. MGallery and Emblems Collection are a step down again, in the collection tier, where hotels are picked for character rather than against a standard, so the range inside them is wide.

Because of the original, Raffles Singapore, which opened in 1887 and became the landmark of colonial-era Southeast Asia. The Singapore Sling was invented at its Long Bar, and Somerset Maugham and Rudyard Kipling both wrote about it. The brand has grown to around twenty-five hotels, but that one is still the reason people know the name.

An independent hotel that joined Accor and kept its own name and character. There are a little over a hundred and thirty worldwide, and they have almost nothing in common with each other beyond the badge: a Belle Epoque hotel in Lyon, a palace hotel in Carcassonne, a townhouse in Krakow.
