Québec, QC G1R 2H1, Canada
The MNBAQ holds the definitive collection of Quebec art from the seventeenth century to now, spread across four linked pavilions that include a former provincial prison and a glass building by OMA. It is the strongest art museum in eastern Canada outside Montreal and Ottawa. Hours to 7 September 2026 are 10:00 to 17:00 with Wednesdays open until 21:00, and from 8 September it closes on Mondays.
Admission is 22 dollars for ages 31 to 64, 21 for over-65s, 15 for ages 18 to 30, 6 for teenagers and free under 12, with a 54 dollar family rate. Two deals are worth planning around: half price on Wednesdays from 17:00 to 21:00, and free entry for Quebec residents 19 and under on the first Sunday of each month. Buying online saves up to 3 dollars. The downsides are distance and scale: it is the furthest indoor site from Old Quebec, the four-pavilion circuit is long and easy to get lost in, and it shuts on Mondays for most of the year.
Pro Tip: Go on a Wednesday at 17:00, pay 11 dollars instead of 22, and walk back to Old Quebec across the Plains of Abraham at dusk. That single decision is the best-value three hours in the city.
