No country does. IHG Hotels & Resorts is a British company listed on the London Stock Exchange, with shareholders around the world. It took its current form in 2003, but its oldest brand goes back much further: InterContinental was founded by the airline Pan Am in 1946.

Yes. It is one of IHG's three luxury brands, and most InterContinentals are five star. Some are landmarks in their own right, such as the Willard in Washington, the Amstel in Amsterdam and the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco.

It is IHG's boutique brand, not a Hyatt one, which is a common mix-up. IHG bought it in 2015. Kimpton started in San Francisco in 1981 and is known for design-led hotels, an evening wine hour and a welcome for dogs. Most Kimptons are upscale four star rather than palace-style luxury.

IHG, since 2019. Six Senses was founded by Sonu and Eva Shivdasani and is the group's wellness brand: mostly remote resorts, from the Maldives to the Douro Valley, and now city hotels in London and Rome. It is among the most expensive stays on this page.
