Check-in & Stay

What is the latest time you can check into a hotel?

There's no universal latest check-in time. Hotels with a 24-hour desk check you in at any hour - others need notice. Here's how to arrange a late arrival on trip1.

Updated October 7, 2026

In short

  • There's no universal latest check-in time - at hotels with a 24-hour front desk, you can usually check in at any hour once check-in opens.
  • Hotels without 24-hour reception often stop checking guests in between 8pm and midnight, so a later arrival needs arranging with the property in advance.
  • If you don't arrive on your first night and don't warn the hotel, it may treat you as a no-show and cancel the rest of your stay.

How late can you check into a hotel?

At most hotels with a 24-hour front desk, check-in has a start time but no end time. Once check-in opens, usually around 3pm, you can arrive at midnight, 3am, or any time during your first night, and staff will check you in.

You'll find your hotel's exact check-in window on the property page on trip1 and again in your confirmation email.

Hotels without 24-hour reception

Smaller hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, and apartment-style properties often have set reception hours. Many close the desk in the evening, often between 8pm and midnight.

You can usually still arrive later, but only if you arrange it first. Common options include a night porter, a key box, a door code sent on the day, or an online check-in link. Some properties charge a small fee for check-in after hours.

What happens if you arrive the next day?

Important

Important: If you won't make it on your first night, tell the hotel before that night. Hotels can mark a missing guest as a no-show, release the room, and cancel the remaining nights of your booking.

You pay for your trip1 booking upfront, so a no-show first night is usually not refundable. A quick message to the hotel keeps the rest of your stay safe.

How to arrange a late arrival - step by step

1Step 1: Check the check-in hours

Open your trip1 confirmation email and look at the check-in window and whether reception is open 24 hours.

2Step 2: Tell the hotel your arrival time

Contact the property using the phone number or email in your confirmation. Share your booking reference and expected arrival time.

3Step 3: Confirm how you'll get in

Ask how late entry works and complete any online check-in link the hotel sends. Save the door code and the hotel's phone number offline on your phone.

If you can't reach the hotel, send trip1 support your booking reference and we'll contact the property for you.

Latest hotel check-in time - FAQ

Yes, if the hotel has a 24-hour front desk or you've arranged late entry in advance. Always tell the hotel your arrival time if you'll arrive late at night.

If you warned the hotel, it will usually have a key box, door code, or night porter ready for you. If you didn't, you may find reception closed and need to call the property.

Not if you arrive during your first night or let the hotel know you're coming late. Hotels usually only cancel when a guest doesn't show up at all and hasn't been in touch.

Some hotels without 24-hour reception charge a small fee for check-in after hours. The property page or the hotel itself can confirm this.

Use the hotel contact details in your trip1 confirmation email and share your booking reference and arrival time. You can also ask trip1 support to pass the message on.
