Entering the Dominican Republic - what you need
The paperwork here is light but not optional. You need a passport, an E-Ticket and an address to declare, which your trip1 booking confirmation gives you in one place.
- A passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
- A completed E-Ticket for your arrival, with the QR code saved to your phone.
- A return or onward ticket.
- The name and address of your accommodation, which the E-Ticket asks for.
- Enough funds to cover your stay, plus a yellow fever certificate if you are arriving from a country with transmission risk.
The E-Ticket, step by step
The E-Ticket is the Dominican Republic's single digital form covering immigration, customs and health. It replaced the paper cards travellers used to fill in on the plane.
Complete it on the official government migration portal, where it is free. You need your passport details, your flight number and the address where you are staying.
You submit one E-Ticket for your arrival and a second one for your departure. Plenty of travellers do the first and forget the second, then end up filling it in on airport wifi with a queue behind them.
Save the QR code as a screenshot or a PDF. Airlines check it at check-in and immigration scans it when you land.
How long you can stay
The standard tourist entry is 30 days, covered by the tourist card fee that is usually inside your airfare. If you want longer, apply to the Migration Department in Santo Domingo before those 30 days run out.
Important: If you overstay, you pay a fine at the airport before you are allowed to fly, and the amount climbs steeply the longer you have been in the country.
Hotel check-in in the Dominican Republic
Bring the passport you entered on. Hotels and resorts ask to see it at check-in and record the details for their guest register.
Your trip1 booking confirmation gives you the exact accommodation address for the E-Ticket and doubles as proof of accommodation if immigration asks where you are staying.
Resorts often ask for a card at the desk to hold against incidentals. That is the hotel's own policy and it is separate from how you paid for the room.
