Hotels in Klaipėda District

Klaipėda District Municipality wraps around the port city of Klaipėda without taking it in — 1,336 km² of farmland, forest and Baltic coastline in the Lithuania Minor region, home to roughly 71,000 people. Its administrative centre is Gargždai, a town of about 15,000 on the Minija River some 20 km inland from the sea, and the municipality is split into eleven elderships including Priekulė, Kretingalė, Dovilai and Veiviržėnai.

The coastal edge is what brings most visitors. Seaside Regional Park protects the last undeveloped stretch of mainland shore in Lithuania, running north from Klaipėda past the fishing village of Karklė to Olando Kepurė — the Dutchman's Cap, the highest cliff on the Lithuanian coast. Pine forest, marked walking and cycling trails and quiet grey-sand beaches make it a far calmer alternative to Palanga in July and August.

Inland the district is a patchwork of small towns and rural heritage: Priekulė with its Ieva Simonaitytė memorial museum, the manor park at Vėžaičiai, the ethnographic homestead at Agluonėnai, and Gargždai's own local history collection. Guesthouses and rural homesteads here cost noticeably less than hotels in Klaipėda city, and almost everything sits within a 30-minute drive of both the port and Palanga Airport.
