Hotels near Art Advent at Karlsplatz

Art Advent sets up in front of the green dome of Karlskirche (St Charles's Church) and is the most design-focused of the Christmas markets in Vienna. Artists and makers sell their own work, and many demonstrate their craft at the stall: ceramics, glass, printmaking, textiles and jewellery. In 2026 it runs from 13 November to 23 December.

The food is what sets Karlsplatz apart. The Vienna Tourist Board describes it as the only Advent market in Austria where all the food and drink is certified organic, so the Punsch and the roast chestnuts come from organic suppliers. The children's area is also unusual: the rides and play equipment run on human power rather than electricity, so parents can let small children burn off energy between stalls.

Live music plays on most evenings, and the reflecting pool in front of the church doubles the lights after dark.

Pro Tip: Karlsplatz closes on 23 December, so do not leave it for Christmas week. Visit after a concert at the Musikverein, which is a 3-minute walk away on the other side of Karlsplatz.
