Fethiye/Muğla, Türkiye
Çalış Beach is a 4 to 5 km curve of small pebble and coarse sand facing due west across the Gulf of Fethiye, backed by a car-free promenade lined with cafés, seafood restaurants and beach bars. The shallow gradient makes it the best swimming beach in the immediate Fethiye area for young families, and the sunset - dropping directly behind the islands of the 12 Islands boat route - is the reason locals drive out for evening drinks between May and October. The water taxi from Fethiye Harbour to Çalış runs a 25-minute service in season, and the 22:15 return sailing is a long-standing local ritual. There is no entry fee for the beach itself; loungers on the private beach clubs rent for 200 to 400 TRY per day in 2026. The Help Beach Bar, at the southern end of the promenade, is the standard sunset stop with cocktails from around 250 TRY. The promenade is well-lit and safe for walking or cycling after dark.
Pro Tip: Skip Çalış at midday when the sea breeze picks up and blows sand into the beachfront cafés. Arrive at 17:30 for the first cocktail, watch the sunset (roughly 19:30 to 20:15 depending on the month), then cycle or dolmuş back after dinner. E-bike rental along the promenade runs about 300 TRY per half day.
