Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Badung Regency, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Canggu (pronounced Chang-goo) is the smaller, surfer-and-digital-nomad-leaning area 8 km north of Seminyak that has overtaken its older neighbour as Bali's coolest neighbourhood since around 2018. Three main areas: Echo Beach, Berawa, and the centre around Batu Bolong. Each has consistent surf breaks, healthy-eating cafes, design boutiques, and a relaxed scene that mixes long-term Western residents with Balinese families.
Standout Canggu spots: La Brisa Beach Club (rustic-luxe beach bar), Crate Cafe (the original digital nomad cafe), Tanah Barak Beach (surf and sunset), and the Wednesday and Sunday Old Man's beach parties. Surf lessons from 350000 IDR per session. A 15-minute Grab ride from Seminyak costs around 60000 IDR. Many Seminyak visitors do a half-day in Canggu mid-trip then return.
Pro Tip: Visit Canggu on a Wednesday or Sunday for the Old Man's beach pool party (free entry, drinks from 60000 IDR). The Berawa rice fields walk at the back of the area is the photogenic green-rice landscape most visitors miss.
