811 02 Bratislava, Slovakia
The Bratislava passenger port on Fajnorovo nabrezie is the departure point for every Danube cruise leaving the city. The signature route is the Twin City Liner high-speed catamaran to Vienna, which reaches 60 km/h and covers the 60-km trip in 1 hour 30 minutes downstream and 1 hour 15 minutes upstream. One-way fares run 25-30 EUR, and the catamaran docks at Schwedenplatz in the centre of Vienna. Sailings run March-October, three to four departures each direction daily.
For a shorter city-only cruise, the operator LOD runs 1-hour panoramic loops upstream to Devin Castle and back (from 15 EUR) three times a day between May and September. The waterfront itself - between Stary Most and Most SNP - carries the Slovak National Gallery, the Natural Science Museum at Vajanskeho nabrezie 2, the Reduta concert hall (home of the Slovak Philharmonic), and an unbroken promenade with sunset views of the castle. The EuroVelo 6 international bike route runs along the south shore in Petrzalka.
Pro Tip: Book Twin City Liner online at least a day ahead in July-August - the top-deck seats sell out first. If you only have an afternoon, take the 1-hour LOD panoramic cruise to Devin at 15:30 for the best afternoon light on the castle rock. Bring layers - the Danube breeze is 5 degrees cooler than the promenade.
