The Hungerburg Christmas market is the highest Innsbruck Christmas market, set on a plateau above the city with panoramic views over Innsbruck and the Inn Valley. It runs from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, according to Innsbruck Tourism, open Monday to Friday from 1pm to 7pm and from noon to 7pm at weekends and on public holidays.

The market is reached by the Hungerburgbahn, a funicular with futuristic stations designed by architect Zaha Hadid, which climbs from the city centre in about eight minutes. Stalls serve mulled wine, Tyrolean food and crafts with the city lights spread out below.

From the Hungerburg, the Nordkette cable car continues up into the mountains for even higher views, weather permitting.

Pro Tip: Ride the funicular up in the late afternoon and stay to watch the city lights come on below. Take a warm jacket, as it is noticeably colder than in the Old Town.
