Ölüdeniz, Fethiye/Muğla, Türkiye
The Lycian Way is a 540-km waymarked hiking route, established in 1999 by British walker Kate Clow, running from Ovacık near Fethiye east to Geyikbayırı near Antalya. It is regularly ranked among the world's finest long-distance coastal walks. Most visitors sample a single day rather than through-hiking. The classic opener is Ovacık to Faralya, a 15 km stage taking 5 to 7 hours: forest path over the Babadağ ridge, then a cliff traverse above the Blue Lagoon with paragliders passing overhead, ending in the clifftop village of Faralya with 600m drops to Butterfly Valley below. There is no entry fee; the trail is free and open year-round. Best conditions run April to June and September to October, when temperatures stay 20 to 27°C. In July and August, start before 06:30 to avoid heatstroke risk on the exposed sections. Follow the red-and-white waymarks; download offline maps and carry 3 litres of water per person.
Pro Tip: Book a pension in Faralya (George House Pansiyon or Melisa Pension) for the night of your walk rather than trying to return the same day. You'll ease the descent, catch the Butterfly Valley overlook at sunset, and pick up the trail again the next morning toward Kabak Valley.
