Herzog-Friedrich-Straße, 6020 Innsbruck, Austria
The Old Town Christmas market is the oldest and largest Innsbruck Christmas market, set along the Herzog-Friedrich-Straße in front of the Golden Roof, the famous balcony with its 2,657 gilded copper tiles. A giant Christmas tree stands in front of the Golden Roof, and around 70 stalls sell Tyrolean crafts, decorations, woollen goods and local food.
The market is open daily from 11am to 9pm, according to Innsbruck Tourism, and listings give an opening date of 13 November 2026. A viewing platform lets you look down over the stalls, and the parallel Kiebachgasse becomes a Fairy Tale Lane, while giant figures from Tyrolean legends line the Riesengasse.
Stalls serve Kiachl, a fried dough speciality, Tyrolean Speck, Kaspressknödel cheese dumplings and mulled wine.
Pro Tip: Visit at dusk to see the Golden Roof and Christmas tree lit up with the mountains still visible behind. Try a Kiachl with sauerkraut or cranberry jam, a Tyrolean classic.
