Strada Valea Lungă, Brașov, Romania
Pârtia Lupului is the run that gives Poiana Brașov its standing with strong skiers. It falls 728 m over 2,605 m, the steepest sustained descent in the domain, and that vertical is why the Telescaun Lupului chairlift fills up on cold mornings. The upper third, below Cristianul Mare, is the serious section: a wide fall-line pitch that holds hard snow well into the morning and gets posted for experienced skiers only when it glazes over.
Past the halfway junction the gradient relaxes and the piste swings through open pasture back toward the village, so intermediates who have ridden the Postăvarul Expres gondola to the top can still get down by traversing into Sulinar. Snow cover on the Postăvarul massif usually sits at 50 to 60 cm from mid-November to mid-March, and snowmaking backs up the main line. For background on the massif and the 12 marked trails at Poiana Brașov, see the Poiana Brașov entry on Wikipedia.
Pro Tip: Be on the Postăvarul Expres gondola at 09:00 when the lifts open. Upper Lupului skis best on the overnight grooming, and after 11:00 the Telescaun Lupului queue can cost you 15 minutes a lap.
