Railay Beach is a small peninsula 5 km south of Ao Nang, accessible only by long-tail boat because 200-metre limestone cliffs block road access. The peninsula splits into 4 beaches: Railay East (where boats dock, mangrove views), Railay West (the postcard sunset side), Phra Nang Cave Beach (the most stunning), and Tonsai (climbing beach). The cliffs are famous in the rock-climbing world.
Long-tail boats run on demand from Ao Nang pier when they fill (8 passengers, 200 THB return); the crossing takes 15 minutes. Railay accommodation ranges from 800 THB hostel bunks to 8000+ THB luxury resort suites. Walking between the 4 beaches takes 5-15 minutes via paved paths. Climbing schools at East beach run half-day intro courses from 800 THB. The peninsula has electricity but no roads.
Pro Tip: Stay at Railay 1-2 nights rather than day-tripping - the peninsula is at its most magical 17:00-21:00 once the day-tripper boats leave. The Last Bar on Railay East has the best sunset cocktails at the end of the cliff.
