Hungary is part of the Schengen Area, so EU and EEA citizens can enter freely with an ID card or passport. Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and many other countries can visit visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Other nationalities should check the Hungarian government's visa portal for requirements before travelling.
Spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) offer the most comfortable weather for sightseeing, with daytime temperatures between 15-25°C. Summer brings crowds and temperatures above 30°C, though outdoor baths and Lake Balaton make the heat manageable. Winter is cold (around 0°C) but brings Christmas markets and cheaper accommodation.
