Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival or apply for an e-visa online in advance. A single-entry tourist visa costs around USD 30 for UK and EU citizens and USD 30 to 45 for others, payable in cash US dollars at the border. Mana Pools walking safaris run roughly April to November. November to March brings rain, closed camps and difficult roads in the parks.

Bring US dollars in cash, as they are used for virtually all tourism transactions including hotels, park fees, tours and tips. Zimbabwe operates a dual currency system alongside the ZiG, introduced in 2024, but visitors rarely need it. Bring small denominations, as change is often scarce and you may receive it in local currency or even goods. Card acceptance is limited and unreliable, and ATMs frequently run out, so do not depend on withdrawing cash locally.

Zimbabwe has roughly three quarters of the falls and the better all-round views, with a rainforest path offering multiple viewpoints facing the main curtain, and it holds up better when water levels are low. Zambia's side is closer and more dramatic at high water, and it is the only side with Devil's Pool. Ideally do both: the two are linked by the Victoria Falls Bridge and the walk between them takes about 20 minutes plus border formalities.

Zimbabwe is generally safe for visitors and the tourism areas around Victoria Falls, Hwange and Mana Pools are well managed with low crime. Political demonstrations occasionally occur in Harare and Bulawayo and are best avoided entirely, as is photographing government buildings or officials. Fuel and power shortages can disrupt travel plans. Malaria prophylaxis is needed for the Zambezi valley and Hwange, and normal wildlife precautions apply at unfenced camps.
