Anything after the cancellation deadline. For most hotels that's 24-48 hours before check-in, but some properties set 72 hours or even a week. The exact deadline appears on the rate at checkout and on your confirmation email.

Once past the deadline, the booking is treated as non-refundable. The hotel keeps the full amount. Some hotels offer a tiered penalty - for example, full refund up to 72 hours before, 50% up to 24 hours, 0% same-day - but most don't.
Last-minute cancellation on trip1
