Do crypto hotel payments have exchange rate risk?

In short

  • No. The crypto amount you pay at trip1 checkout is locked at the quoted rate for the payment window, usually 15 minutes.
  • CoinGate, trip1's payment provider, converts the crypto to fiat at that locked rate, so the hotel receives its full listed price in local currency.
  • If the payment window expires before you send, the amount recalculates at the current market rate on your next attempt.

The rate is locked at checkout

When you choose Pay with crypto at trip1 checkout, CoinGate quotes the exact crypto amount you owe based on the current market rate for the coin and network you selected. That amount is locked for the duration of the payment window, usually 15 minutes.

If you send the quoted amount within that window, price movement in either direction doesn't change anything. You paid what was quoted, and the hotel receives the full fiat price.

Why the hotel takes no risk

CoinGate settles with hotels in fiat currency, converting your crypto payment as soon as it's confirmed on-chain. This is how MiCA-licensed processors work - the merchant never holds crypto and never sees volatility. From the hotel's side, it's a normal fiat booking.

What if the window expires

If you don't send in time, the invoice expires. Start a new payment and CoinGate will quote a fresh amount at the then-current rate. You're never locked into a stale price.
