What documents do I need to travel to Qatar?
Most visitors enter Qatar without applying in advance, getting a free visa waiver on arrival. You need a passport valid six months, a return ticket and confirmed accommodation.

Entering Qatar - what you need
Qatar is one of the easier Gulf countries to visit, and most tourists do nothing at all before they fly. Bring these anyway, because the officer at Hamad International can ask for any of them, including your trip1 booking confirmation.
- A passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
- A visa waiver granted on arrival, or a Hayya e-visa approved before you fly.
- A return or onward ticket.
- Confirmed accommodation - your trip1 booking confirmation covers this.
- Proof that you can support yourself, which some nationalities are asked for.
- Qatari health insurance if you are staying longer than 30 days.
Visa-free entry - who gets it and for how long
Qatar grants a free visa waiver at passport control to citizens of roughly 100 countries, and there is nothing to apply for or pay. The standard permission is 30 days, extendable once by another 30 days in many cases.
EU citizens get a longer allowance of 90 days within any 180-day period. GCC nationals move freely and can travel on a national ID card.
If you are only changing planes, you can leave the airport and return within 24 hours without a visa whatever your nationality. The waiver itself is still a decision made by the officer, not an automatic right.
What the Hayya platform is for
Hayya is Qatar's official digital platform for entry permits and e-visas. It was built for the 2022 World Cup and kept afterwards as the country's single entry system.
If your nationality is not on the visa waiver list, this is where you apply. The form asks for your passport details, a photo, your accommodation and a fee.
Hayya also handles permits for residents hosting family and friends, and the land crossing at Abu Samra. Apply on the official platform rather than through a reseller.
Accommodation and insurance rules that catch people out
Immigration can ask visa-waiver arrivals for a confirmed hotel booking, and the requirement has been applied more strictly to some nationalities than others. Have your trip1 booking confirmation open on your phone in the queue, not buried in your email.
Health insurance is mandatory for visitors staying more than 30 days, and it has to come from a provider registered with Qatar's Ministry of Public Health. The standard premium has been around 50 Qatari riyals a month per person.
Short tourist stays are exempt from that insurance rule. Check the current position on the official Hayya site if your trip is close to the 30-day line.
Hotel check-in in Qatar
Hotels ask each adult guest for a passport at check-in and record the details. Bring the physical passport rather than a photo of it.
Your trip1 booking confirmation is what the front desk needs to find your reservation, and it doubles as the proof of accommodation immigration may ask for.
Doha hotels commonly ask for a card at check-in to hold a deposit against extras. That is the hotel's own policy and separate from how you paid for the room on trip1.
