Hotels near Advent in Óbuda

Advent in Óbuda (Advent Óbudán) takes place on Fő tér, the Baroque main square of Óbuda, the oldest part of Budapest. It is the Budapest Christmas market that many locals prefer, with lower prices, better food and far fewer tourists than the central markets. The 2026 market is confirmed to open on 27 November.

The square is ringed by old buildings, and the market has a small-town feel, with stalls selling Hungarian food, crafts and drinks, and a stage for concerts. It is a good place to try traditional dishes such as stuffed cabbage and roast pork at reasonable prices.

Óbuda is easy to reach on the H5 suburban railway from Batthyány tér.

Pro Tip: Visit on a weekday evening and try the stuffed cabbage (töltött káposzta), a classic Hungarian Christmas dish. Combine it with a walk to the nearby Roman ruins of Aquincum.
