Hotel Zone, 77500 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico
The Cancún Underwater Museum (MUSA), off Punta Nizuc, is one of the world's largest underwater art installations - more than 500 life-size concrete sculptures by artist Jason deCaires Taylor, submerged to form an artificial reef. Placed a few metres down in clear water, the eerie human figures now host coral and fish, doubling as a conservation project that draws snorkellers and divers away from fragile natural reefs. Snorkel tours suit everyone, while certified divers can reach the deeper galleries.
Pro Tip: Choose a snorkel tour that visits the shallow Manchones gallery near Isla Mujeres for the best visibility, and bring an underwater camera - the ghostly figures are unforgettable on film.
