100 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5H 2N1, Canada
The Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square, in front of Toronto City Hall, officially lights the city's Christmas tree and illuminations, with live music, skating and fireworks. In 2026, it takes place on Saturday 28 November from 5pm to 10pm, according to listings.
Nathan Phillips Square's outdoor ice rink, beneath the illuminated Toronto sign and City Hall's curved towers, is one of the city's most popular places to skate in winter, with free skating and skate rental available.
The square stays decorated throughout December, and the rink is open through the winter, weather permitting. It is a free alternative to the ticketed Toronto Christmas market.
Pro Tip: Arrive early for the Cavalcade of Lights to find a good spot near the stage, and stay for the fireworks. Bring your own skates to avoid long rental queues.
