The Daunhill is the hardest prepared piste on the Stubai Glacier and the run people compare notes on afterwards. It measures 1.8 kilometres, drops 350 vertical metres, reaches a maximum gradient of 60 percent and is served by the Daunjoch chairlift above the Daunferner. Sitting on glacier ice at well over 2,900 metres, it holds cold snow long after lower Tyrolean resorts have turned to slush, and the speed-check and slalom courses on the neighbouring Eisjochferner give racers somewhere to burn the rest of the day.

The Stubai Glacier opens on 9 October 2026 for the 2026/27 season and runs into mid-May 2027. Main winter day passes, valid 24 October 2026 to 16 April 2027, cost 75.50 EUR for adults, 49.10 EUR for youth and 37.80 EUR for children, and under-10s ski free with a paying parent. Mutterbergalm, the valley station at 1,758 metres, is 43 kilometres from Innsbruck, about 45 minutes by car on the A13 and the B183. VVT Regiobus line 590 leaves from in front of Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof; the Innsbruck to Schönberg leg costs 4.60 EUR and the rest is free with a ski pass.

Pro Tip: Finish on the Wilde Grub'n, the 10-kilometre valley route that loses 1,460 vertical metres down to Mutterbergalm. Last descent from the top station is 16:15, so leave the Daunjoch chairlift by about 15:45 to be sure of it.
