Koh Tapu (Nail Island), nicknamed James Bond Island after its appearance in the 1974 film The Man with the Golden Gun, is a 20-metre limestone pillar rising from Phang Nga Bay just off the larger Koh Khao Phing Kan. Visitors land on Koh Khao Phing Kan's small beach to view the pillar from across the narrow strait. The site sits within Phang Nga Bay National Park (300 THB entry).
Most visitors come on a Phang Nga Bay day tour combining James Bond Island with the floating village Koh Panyee, sea caves, and snorkelling. Tour price 1500-2500 THB from Phuket; departure from Bang Rong or Ao Po piers; total trip 8 hours. James Bond Island itself is small - allow 30 minutes for photos and souvenir stalls. Most photographs require getting back on the boat for the angle from the water.
Pro Tip: The famous Bond Island photo angle is taken from the water just south-west of the pillar - ask the boat captain to circle the pillar before docking. Wear water shoes - the landing beach has sharp rocks.
