Karon, Phuket 83100, Thailand
Karon Beach is Phuket's second-longest beach at 3.5 km, sitting between Patong (5 km north) and Kata (1 km south). The wide white sand and absence of jet skis (banned since 2018) makes it the choice for families and travellers wanting a beach holiday without Patong's intensity. The famous squeaky sand effect is caused by the unique grain shape - rare globally.
Surf breaks form in May-October when monsoon swells reach the coast; the rest of the year sees gentle swimming conditions. Sun loungers (200 THB/day), restaurant areas, and a beachfront walkway run along the back. The Karon Viewpoint at the southern headland (5-min taxi) is the most-photographed beach overlook in Phuket - the three-bay view of Karon, Kata, and Kata Noi is iconic. Beach is public, free.
Pro Tip: The northern end near the Hilton has the calmest water for swimming and zero loungers. Combine with the Karon Temple's evening market 17:00-22:00 (Tuesday and Friday only) for the best street food on the west coast.
