Hotels near La Petite France Market

La Petite France, the old tanners' and millers' quarter at the western tip of the Grande Île, hosts its own market on Place Benjamin-Zix and Place Saint-Thomas. The chalets stand among the half-timbered houses and canals that make this the most picturesque district in Strasbourg, especially when the house fronts are lit at night.

The stalls are smaller in number than at Broglie, but the setting more than makes up for it. Covered bridges, lock gates and the steep roofs of the old tanneries frame every view, and the Christmas illuminations run along the water.

It is a natural final stop on a walk through the Strasbourg Christmas markets, since the producers' market at Square Louise-Weiss and the Marché OFF at Place Grimmeissen are both a few minutes away.

Pro Tip: Walk to the Barrage Vauban, the 17th-century covered weir at the edge of La Petite France. Its rooftop terrace is free and gives a view back over the lit canals and the Ponts Couverts.
