Hotels near Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ

Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ opened in 2005 to a design by the Danish practice 3XN, built out over the IJtunnel on Piet Heinkade with water on three sides. The main hall seats 725 across three levels, 494 in the stalls, 191 on the first balcony and 40 on the second, and takes 1,300 standing. The room measures 30 metres long, 20 wide and 10 high, with a stage 20 metres across. The Bimhuis, the city's jazz venue, is built into the same complex. Bicycle parking underneath the building is free and open around the clock.

The venue has programmed with Amsterdam Dance Event since 2012, and its 2026 listings are the argument for building one civilised evening into the week. Crawler Presents: Your Death Is a Lullaby plays on Wednesday 21 October at 19:30, an ambient and dub live premiere. Hoketus 50! follows on Thursday 22 October at 20:15. Both are seated, both start on time, and both finish early enough to put you at a club door before the queue thickens. Nobody dances here, which is precisely the point of it.

Getting there is quick and driving is not worth it. Tram 26 from Amsterdam Centraal station reaches the Muziekgebouw Bimhuis stop in about three minutes, and the waterfront walk from the station's north exit takes fifteen. A day ticket for the Piet Hein garage under the building was €20 as of October 2025. Wheelchair users should use the main entrance at the bottom of the quay rather than the steep footbridge.

Pro Tip: Book Hoketus 50! for 20:15 on Thursday 22 October and take tram 26 back to Amsterdam Centraal station afterwards. You are back at the station inside five minutes, which puts you at the Nieuwmarkt and Warmoesstraat venues while their second slots are still starting.
