Patong Beach is Phuket's most developed resort area - a 3 km crescent of white sand backed by hotels, beach clubs, and the infamous Bangla Road nightlife strip. The beach itself is broad, swimmable in calm season, and dotted with beach loungers (200 THB/day) and parasols. Despite its over-development reputation, the central section between Loma and Soi Bangla remains photogenic at sunset.
Patong is the centre of Phuket's tourist infrastructure - cheapest taxis, most restaurants, the largest concentration of dive shops and Thai boxing gyms. Bangla Road operates as a closed pedestrian strip 18:00-late with bars, ladyboy cabaret shows, and Muay Thai stadiums. Jet ski rentals and parasailing are widely available - the legal scam-free operators are at the southern Patong Bay area. Beach is public, free, open 24 hours.
Pro Tip: The far northern end of Patong Beach (Kalim) is significantly quieter than the central strip and the water clearer. For a beach with proper food, walk south to Tri Trang Beach (5-min taxi) which sits in a small protected cove and is rarely crowded.
