Hotels near Vörösmarty Classic Xmas

The Christmas market on Vörösmarty Square is the oldest Budapest Christmas market, held here since 1998. It is large and lively, with wooden stalls selling Hungarian crafts such as embroidered textiles, ceramics, leather goods and wooden toys, along with a wide choice of hot food and drink.

A stage hosts folk music and dance, and the Gerbeaud café, a Budapest institution since the 19th century, overlooks the square. Its facade is often decorated as a giant Advent calendar during the season.

In 2025 the market ran from 14 November to 31 December. Prices for food and drink are higher than in neighbourhood markets, and the square is packed on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Pro Tip: Order forralt bor (Hungarian mulled wine) and a kürtőskalács chimney cake, then walk along Fashion Street to the Basilica, about 10 minutes away, to see both main markets in one evening.
