Do I need a wallet for my AI agent to book on trip1?
Not always. Your AI agent can search and prepare a trip1 booking without a wallet. To pay on its own, it needs an x402 wallet holding USDC on Base.

What is trip1 MCP?
trip1 is a hotel booking platform with over 3 million hotels in 190+ countries, payable in Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, and 120+ other cryptocurrencies. trip1 also runs a public MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so AI agents like Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor can search and book hotels for you.
Option 1 - Let the agent pay with an x402 wallet
Add a payments MCP that supports x402 next to the trip1 MCP server. trip1's setup page suggests Coinbase Payments MCP, which you can install with npx @coinbase/payments-mcp.
Fund the wallet with USDC on Base. When the agent books, it signs the payment itself and the booking settles in about 2 seconds.
Option 2 - Pay yourself with a payment link
If the agent has no x402 wallet, trip1's purchase_hotel tool returns a CoinGate payment URL. Open it in your browser and pay with Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, or 120+ other cryptocurrencies from any wallet.
This keeps you in control of every payment, which many people prefer.
Which option should you pick?
Choose the x402 wallet if you want a fully hands-off booking and you're comfortable giving the agent a spending balance. Choose the payment link if you want to review and approve each payment yourself.
Important: Keep only what you plan to spend in an agent's wallet. On-chain payments can't be reversed once they settle.
