Do I need to verify my self-custody wallet to pay?

No. trip1 never asks you to verify wallet ownership. Verification checks come from licensed exchanges in certain countries, and they happen before you send.

Paying from your own wallet on trip1

trip1 is built around self-custody. You do not open a crypto account with us, you do not connect a wallet, and there is nothing to verify. At checkout, CoinGate (trip1's crypto payment provider) shows a QR code and a wallet address, and you send the exact amount from whatever wallet you use, whether that is MetaMask, Ledger, Trezor, Phantom, or a mobile Bitcoin wallet.

trip1 supports 50+ cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USDC, Litecoin (LTC), XRP, Solana (SOL), and more, across 15+ networks.

Where wallet verification does come up

If you are moving funds out of a licensed exchange first, that exchange may ask you to prove you control the destination wallet. This comes from Travel Rule requirements in the country where the exchange is licensed, and it is becoming more common for transfers to self-hosted wallets.

The usual methods are signing a short message with the wallet's private key, or sending a small test amount first. Both are handled inside your exchange's own interface.

Important

Important: No legitimate verification process ever asks for your seed phrase or recovery words. Anyone who asks for them is trying to steal your funds, and a wallet drained this way cannot be recovered.

What changes in Thailand from February 2027

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission issued its Travel Rule for digital assets on 2 September 2026, taking effect on 27 February 2027. Licensed Thai operators will need to confirm ownership or control of self-hosted wallets before sending funds to them or accepting funds from them, and keep transfer records for five years.

This applies to Thai licensed platforms rather than to trip1. If you use a Thai exchange to fund a hotel booking, expect an extra verification step on the withdrawal from that date. Booking on trip1 itself does not change.

How to avoid delays at checkout

  1. Move funds into your own wallet before you start booking, so no exchange checks run against a countdown.
  2. Complete any wallet verification your exchange offers in advance, since most platforms remember a verified address.
  3. Pick a fast network at checkout, such as Lightning for Bitcoin or a Layer 2 for Ethereum, so the payment confirms well inside the window.

Self-custody wallet verification - FAQ

Yes. You can pay from any wallet you control, including MetaMask, Ledger, Trezor, or a mobile Bitcoin wallet. Scan the QR code at checkout and send the exact amount.

No. trip1 never asks you to prove wallet ownership. Any verification you run into happens at the exchange or platform you are sending from, before the funds reach trip1.

From 27 February 2027, licensed Thai crypto platforms must confirm ownership or control of self-hosted wallets before sending funds to them or accepting funds from them. This affects Thai platforms, not trip1 checkout.

Platforms usually ask you to sign a short message with the wallet's private key or send a small test amount. Follow the instructions in your exchange's own interface and never share your seed phrase with anyone.
