Es Canar beach is one of the best family beaches on the east coast of Ibiza - a long, north-facing sandy cove with calm, shallow water that is significantly less exposed to wind than the west coast beaches. The beach stretches about 700 metres and has a gentle sandy bottom that shelves gradually, making it safe for young children who want to wade in without depth dropping away quickly. The surrounding development is low-rise and the beach has a more relaxed atmosphere than the resort beaches near San Antonio.
The beach has sunlounger hire (about 10 EUR for two), a beach bar, showers, and lifeguards in season (June to September). A small weekly market (the Hippy Market at Es Canar) runs every Wednesday from 10 AM to 6 PM between May and October, 200 metres from the beach - a genuinely enjoyable morning for families combining a market browse with a beach swim. Bus route L16 runs from Santa Eularia des Riu (15 min).
Pro Tip: The Hippy Market at Es Canar (Wednesday mornings, May to October) is the original Ibiza market, running since 1973, and has a far more authentic character than the tourist souvenir stalls in Ibiza Town. It's walkable from the beach and the stalls selling handmade children's clothing, painted ceramics, and fresh fruit are genuinely good value.
