Stretching south of town, Sian Ka'an is a vast UNESCO World Heritage biosphere reserve of mangroves, lagoons, reefs and tropical forest - the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean. It is the wild, untouched counterpoint to Tulum's polished beach strip.
