5 Best Ski Slopes in Zakopane

Harenda Zakopane is the town's workhorse ski area and the one most visitors actually ski. It runs from 772 m to 970 m on the flank of Wierch Grapa, giving 198 m of vertical across roughly 4 km of piste. A four-person Leitner chairlift does the heavy lifting at 2,400 people per hour on a ride of about three and a half minutes, backed by four surface tows and a conveyor belt for first-timers. The longest descent measures close to 1 km, and one run holds FIS homologation, so the fall line bites harder than the gentle blues at the bottom suggest.

Sitting outside Tatra National Park, Harenda Zakopane can make snow and light its pistes, and lifts typically turn from 08:30 until 20:00. The season usually opens in mid-December and winds down in mid-March. A Tatry Super Ski day pass costs 170 PLN (about 39 EUR) for adults and 160 PLN (about 37 EUR) for children and over-65s, and the same pass is valid at Suche and at Kotelnica Białczańska.

Polana Szymoszkowa sits on the western edge of Zakopane and has the strongest lift of any hill inside the town. A six-person express chairlift covers 1,291 m with 261 m of vertical and moves 3,000 people an hour, climbing from 862 m at the base to 1,123 m at the top. A second, four-person chairlift of 360 m and 60 m of vertical handles the nursery ground below it. From the top station the red run measures 1,342 m at an average gradient near 20 percent, while the blue takes a wider, slower line down the same polana.

All 1.8 km of piste at Polana Szymoszkowa carries snowmaking and floodlighting. Pricing moves through four bands across the winter: 150 PLN (about 35 EUR) before Christmas, 185 PLN (about 43 EUR) over the holiday fortnight, 170 PLN (about 39 EUR) from early January to early March, and 165 PLN (about 38 EUR) once spring arrives.

Kotelnica Białczańska Ski Resort in Białka Tatrzańska is where Zakopane skiers go when they want room to move. One pass covers the linked Kotelnica, Bania and Kaniówka sectors, adding up to close to 17 km of piste between roughly 705 m and 938 m, served by around a dozen lifts. The main six-person express chairlift runs 1,350 m with 200 m of vertical; a three-person chairlift of 1,380 m and a four-person chairlift of 800 m take the pressure off it. Grading stays deliberately friendly, with blue runs dominating, half a dozen reds adding bite, and no black terrain anywhere.

Every main run is snowmade and floodlit, which counts for a lot in a thin winter, and the 300 m Burton snowpark stays lit into the evening. Kotelnica Białczańska lies outside Tatra National Park and outside the Tatras proper, so it often keeps running on days when wind shuts the Kasprowy Wierch cable car.

Stacja Narciarska Suche opened for the 2012/13 season on a north-facing slope above Poronin, and the aspect is the whole point. Sun reaches it late, so the snow holds firm through the afternoon when Harenda Zakopane has turned to slush. A four-person Doppelmayr chairlift climbs 640 m with 137 m of vertical, from 794 m at the base to 931 m at the top, supported by a short drag lift and a conveyor belt on the nursery ground.

Five runs total about 2.5 km. Three are wide family blues of a few hundred metres each, and the trasa sportowa, roughly 900 m long, pitches steeply enough that local clubs set training gates on it. Snowmaking covers 1.8 km and the same stretch is floodlit, with lifts turning until 21:00. The 2026/27 season is scheduled from 19 December to 21 March. Stacja Narciarska Suche accepts the Tatry Super Ski pass, so a 170 PLN (about 39 EUR) day ticket bought at Harenda works here as well.
