Argentina Travel Facts
Argentina stretches from the subtropical falls at Iguaçu to the glaciers of Patagonia, with Buenos Aires — European in looks, thoroughly Latin in temperament — as the entry point for most visitors. Mendoza supplies the Malbec and the Andes foothills, Bariloche the lakes and ski season, and El Calafate and Ushuaia the far south. Distances are vast, so internal flights matter, but the payoff is a country that covers wine, wilderness, tango and some of the best beef anywhere.

Argentina Travel FAQ
Most Western nationalities can visit Argentina visa-free for up to 90 days. This includes EU, UK, US, Canadian and Australian passport holders, and extensions are possible once through immigration offices. Your passport must be valid for the length of your stay.
Argentina's seasons are reversed from the northern hemisphere, so plan around the region. Buenos Aires and Mendoza are most pleasant in spring (October to November) and autumn (March to April). Patagonia only really opens up from November to March, while the northern deserts and Iguaçu are best in the cooler winter months.
Argentina is one of the safer countries in South America for visitors. Petty theft and pickpocketing in Buenos Aires are the main issues, particularly around La Boca, Retiro station and crowded markets. Patagonia and the wine regions see very little crime of any kind.
Argentina uses the Argentine Peso (ARS). Inflation has been high for years, so prices change frequently and it is worth checking the current rate before you travel. Cards are widely accepted in cities, and foreign card payments are settled at the official tourist rate.
