Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier is 15 km south of downtown. The O-Train Line 2 now serves the airport, reaching the centre in roughly 25 minutes with a connection, for a standard transit fare. A taxi or rideshare takes about 20 minutes. Both are straightforward, and Ottawa's airport is small enough that transfers rarely take long.
When conditions allow. The Skateway is a 7.8 km stretch of frozen canal, the largest naturally frozen skating rink in the world, and it typically opens in January and runs into February or March. Warming winters have made it unreliable: it failed to open at all in some recent seasons. Check the National Capital Commission's daily ice conditions before travelling, and treat it as a bonus rather than a guaranteed part of a winter trip.
