Copenhagen Travel Facts
Copenhagen is Denmark's capital and largest city, spread across the eastern coast of Zealand and the smaller island of Amager. Compact, low-rise, and famously flat, it is one of the world's best cities for getting around by bike - over 60 percent of residents cycle to work or school.
The city pairs centuries of royal heritage - palaces, churches, and the Nyhavn waterfront - with a globally influential food scene led by Noma alumni, the 19th-century Tivoli Gardens, and modern design from CopenHill to the new Royal Library. It is also a natural base for day trips: across the Øresund Bridge to Malmo in Sweden, north to Helsingor's Kronborg Castle, and west to the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.

Copenhagen Destination FAQ
June to August has the warmest weather and the longest days, perfect for harbour swims and outdoor dining. December is magical for Tivoli's Christmas season and the Strogets festive lights. May and September offer mild weather with fewer crowds.
Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is just 8 km from the centre. The Metro line M2 runs every 4-6 minutes and reaches the centre in 14 minutes. The DSB train to Copenhagen Central is even faster at around 13 minutes. Taxis cost around DKK 300.
Cycling is the local default - over 60 percent of residents bike daily, and rental and Donkey Republic share bikes are everywhere. The Metro, S-train, and harbour buses cover longer hops. The Copenhagen Card includes all transit and 80+ attractions.
Three to four full days covers the main neighbourhoods, Tivoli, the museums, Nyhavn, and Christianshavn at a relaxed pace. Add a day each for excursions to Helsingor's Kronborg Castle, Roskilde's Viking ships, or Malmo via the Oresund Bridge.
Copenhagen is among the safest capitals in the world. Petty theft can occur around Norreport, Central Station, and tourist clusters, but violent crime is rare. Be careful crossing roads - bikes have right of way in many situations.
