June to August is peak season in Tallinn, with long daylight, warm terraces, and the medieval Old Town Days festival in June. December brings one of Europe's best Christmas markets on Town Hall Square, while May and September offer good value and thinner crowds.
Tram 4 runs from Tallinn Airport (TLL) directly to the city centre in about 15 minutes for 2 EUR (or free with a Tallinn Card). Bus 2 is a slightly longer alternative; a Bolt or licensed taxi is cheap at around 8-12 EUR.
Tallinn's old town is fully pedestrian and walkable in a day; trams, trolleys, and buses cover the rest cheaply (free for registered residents, 2 EUR/hour for visitors). Bolt is Estonian-founded, widely available, and cheap for evening trips.
Two days is enough to cover Tallinn's medieval old town, hipster Telliskivi, and Kadriorg Palace and park. Add a third day for a Lahemaa National Park tour, Kalamaja wooden houses, or a Helsinki day trip by 2-hour ferry.
