Late May-June and September-October are ideal - warm weather (24-28°C), swimmable seas, manageable crowds, and lower prices. July-August is peak season with temperatures above 32°C and high prices. April and October are excellent for sightseeing. Most island services reduce or close from November-March, with the exception of Crete and Rhodes.
Ferries are the primary transport between islands. Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, and SeaJets operate regular routes. Book via Ferryhopper or Direct Ferries. High-speed catamarans are faster but pricier. Domestic flights (Olympic Air, Sky Express, Aegean Airlines) connect Athens with most major islands. Journey times vary widely - Athens to Santorini is 5-8 hours by ferry or 45 minutes by air.
