Diagoras Airport (RHO) has direct flights from across Europe in summer and year-round service from Athens (~45 min). By sea, overnight ferries from Athens/Piraeus take 14-18 hours (Blue Star Ferries), while high-speed catamarans reach Rhodes in ~9 hours. Seasonal routes connect Rhodes with Crete, Kos, and Turkey (Marmaris, Bodrum).
A rental car (~€30-50/day) is strongly recommended for the full island. KTEL buses connect main towns from two terminals in Rhodes Town (east coast and west coast routes, fares €2-6). Rhodes Town itself is very walkable - the Old Town is car-free. Scooter/quad hire (~€25/day) is popular for shorter distances. Boat taxis run from Mandraki Harbour to beaches and islands in summer.
Rhodes Town is the capital with the UNESCO medieval Old Town and modern New Town. Lindos (~55 km south) is a whitewashed clifftop village with the Acropolis. The east coast has resort towns: Faliraki (beaches/nightlife), Afantou (family-friendly), Tsambika (golden sand). The west coast is windier with Ancient Kamiros ruins and the Valley of the Butterflies. Southern Rhodes is remote and wild, ending at Prasonisi where two seas meet.
Symi island (~45 min by ferry) has a stunning neoclassical harbour. Halki (~1h ferry) is tiny and car-free. Kos (~2h 30min ferry) has ancient ruins and beach resorts. Marmaris, Turkey (~1h ferry, summer only) offers bazaar shopping. Patmos (~4h ferry) has the Cave of the Apocalypse and a UNESCO monastery. All ferries depart from Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes Town.
