The best time to visit Zurich is June to September, when the lake is warm enough for swimming, terraces are open, and day trips to the Alps are easy. December is a strong second for the Christmas markets and skiing add-ons, while shoulder seasons (May, October) offer lower hotel prices.
SBB trains run every 10-15 minutes from Zurich Airport (ZRH) to Zurich Hauptbahnhof in about 10-15 minutes, and cost around 7 CHF. Tickets can be bought from SBB machines or apps like SBB Mobile; a taxi to the centre takes about 20 minutes and costs 60-70 CHF.
Trams, buses, and S-Bahn trains run frequently and are the fastest way around Zurich, all covered by ZVV tickets. Central Zurich is walkable end-to-end in about 30 minutes, and boat rides on Lake Zurich are included on 24-hour transit passes.
Two to three days is enough for Zurich's old town, museums, and a boat ride on the lake. Add another 1-2 days if you want to combine day trips like Lucerne, the Rhine Falls, Rigi, or Titlis by train.
