How to pay for a hotel with XRP - and do I need a destination tag?
Yes, every XRP payment on trip1 needs the destination tag shown on the CoinGate invoice. Here is how to pay with XRP in six steps and what to do if you forget it.
Updated
trip1 is a hotel booking platform where you can book from over 3 million hotels in 190+ countries and pay with 50+ cryptocurrencies through CoinGate, trip1's MiCA-licensed crypto payment provider. XRP is one of the fastest options, as long as you include the destination tag.
Why XRP works well for hotel payments
XRP runs on the XRP Ledger. According to the XRP Ledger documentation, a new ledger version closes about every 3 to 5 seconds, and the standard network fee is just 0.00001 XRP.
Your payment settles in seconds for a fraction of a cent.
What is a destination tag?
A destination tag is a number that tells CoinGate which invoice your XRP belongs to. Many payments arrive at the same XRP address, so the tag is what links yours to your booking. Exchanges may call this field Tag, Memo or Destination tag.
How to pay with XRP - step by step
Step 1: Choose your hotel and select Pay with crypto
Search for your hotel on trip1, pick your dates and room, and check the cancellation policy. At checkout, choose Pay with crypto.
Step 2: Select XRP in the CoinGate window
Choose XRP in the CoinGate payment window. The invoice shows three things you need: the amount, the address and the destination tag.
Step 3: Choose how you want to pay
Scan the QR code or copy the details into your wallet or exchange, connect a wallet with WalletConnect, or use Binance Pay. CoinGate may ask for a one-time Transfer of Funds Regulation (TFR) form, an EU compliance step.
Step 4: Enter the address, destination tag and amount
Paste the address, then the destination tag, then the exact amount. If you pay from an exchange such as OKX, add the withdrawal fee on top so the full amount arrives.
Step 5: Send before the timer ends
Confirm the transaction before the countdown runs out. XRP usually reaches CoinGate within seconds.
Step 6: Check your confirmation email
trip1 confirms your booking and emails you the details. If you sent too little or too late, the invoice lets you top up or request a refund.
Important: Double-check the destination tag before you send. A payment without the correct tag is not detected automatically, and you will have to wait for support to complete it manually or refund it.
What if I forgot the destination tag?
Don't worry - your XRP is not lost. Contact support with your order ID and transaction ID. CoinGate will complete the payment manually where possible, or refund it so you can book again.
